This wonderful example has a well-defined turned bulbous form with concentric rings at the neck and base with a pronounced foot. The lid has a crisp edge with a turned urn-form finial.
This form of turned, covered treenware also became known as “Peaseware,” derived from David Mills Pease’s family, who moved from the Connecticut River Valley around 1838 and settled in the Western Reserve of Northeastern Ohio. The Pease and Brown families continued to produce covered treenware for over 125 years and were considered industry leaders.
