“Woolie” Ship Portrait
English, mid-19th c.
Fine condition, minor toning, some loss to wool commensurate with age. Appears to be in the original bird’s-eye maple frame.
91” x 28” (with frame).
This is an earlier example for a wool-work painting due to the age of the stretcher bar and stitching methods. The three masted ship is flying the British flag with numerous other house and country flags, giving the ship great visual appeal.
