“Woolie” Ship Portrait
English, mid-19th c.
Fine condition, minor toning, some loss to wool commensurate with age. Appears to be in the original bird’s-eye maple frame.
19” x 28” (with frame).
This is an earlier example for a wool-work painting due to the age of the stretcher bar and stitching methods. The three-masted ship is flying the British flag with numerous other house and country flags, giving the ship great visual appeal.
