Dean Fausett (William Dean Fausett) was born in Price, Utah in 1913, but settled in Dorset, Vermont, where he spent most of his career. He studied at Brigham Young University and the Art Students League in New York City. His work has been represented in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art. His work has also been exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the California Watercolor Society. He was the younger brother of artist Lynn Fausett (1894-1977).

Fausett is well-known for his portraits, murals and landscapes. He painted portraits of luminaries such as Ronald Reagan, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Hoagy Carmichael and former Vermont Governor Thomas Salmon. His landscapes depicting Vermont, one of which Dwight Eisenhower in his White House study during his presidency, were especially celebrated.
