Transitional Chippendale Scroll Top Mirror with Carved Eagle

English or American, ca. 1790
Mahogany veneer, pine, gesso and gilt wood, backboards appear to be eastern white pine
Condition: Excellent with only a few glue blocks missing, gilt appears to be original with old varnish removed, original looking glass and backboards.
Provenance: Vinny Stanulus, 1972. Collection of Carol and Mac Bramley, Litchfield, CT, 1983-2016.
Nearly identical types of mirrors have been associated with the merchant William Wilmerding. He sold these mirrors bearing his label in New York City from 1789 to about 1813.
