Probably coastal Massachusetts, ca. 1750-1765.
Maple, ash, birch arms.
Condition: Excellent condition, retaining early 19th century red wash and varnish finish, seat re-rushed.
Rare and possibly unique rush seat arm chair with turned stiles and slat-back flanked by serpentine arms with incising and carved knuckles. Possibly inspired by a Philadelphia carved knuckle armchair the maker had access to.
