During Junius Brutus Stearns’ distinguished and brilliant career he created this work, Hiwatha’s Courtship, which could be considered among his finest works. Derived from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s 1855 epic poem, The Song of Hiawatha, it captures historical folklore history. There are several notable works of art, to include sculpture, commemorating the story of Hiawatha’s love and courtship of Minnehaha but this rare example painted by Stearns is perhaps one of the best depictions.
